(Las Vegas, Nev) Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (SDMI) is the first center in Nevada to offer 3D breast biopsy and the first in the region to utilize CorLumina Imaging technology. 3D breast biopsy is an advanced, minimally invasive technique utilizing the Hologic Affirm Prone Breast Biopsy System. This new system is the world’s first and only dedicated prone biopsy system to offer both 2D and 3D imaging-guided breast biopsies.
The availability of 3D imaging for biopsy guidance facilitates the localization and precise targeting of lesions, including those that can be challenging to detect with conventional imaging techniques with CorLumina Imaging technology. This new biopsy technology has several key advantages over standard X-ray biopsy procedures, including faster, accurate targeting, real time confirmation of sample, and fewer x-ray exposure, resulting in shorter patient procedure time, and reduced patient dose.
“SDMI is pleased to offer this advanced technology to the women in our community, said Dr. Aanshu Shah, Director of Women’s Imaging at SDMI. “The ability to biopsy small areas of interest that may not be visible using other imaging techniques provides a significant advantage to our physicians and their patients. In addition, CorLumina technology allows for imaging of specimens while acquiring to ensure the sample is correct. Integrating this ability into a system that allows these procedures to be performed with patient comfort in mind represents a transformative innovation in breast biopsy.” SDMI’s investment in this revolutionary system is another affirmation of our commitment to providing cutting edge technology and an exceptional patient experience. 3D breast biopsy is now available at our Northwest location.
