What Are MRIs And Arthrograms?

An MRI is used to capture images of the body’s internal structures while an arthrogram is used to see structures in joints by injecting a contrast dye. These procedures, when used together, provide a fuller picture of the patient’s internal tissue and joint health through the MRI scan and x-ray. At SDMI, a pediatric arthrogram mri scan involves the contrast injection and a pediatric x-ray before moving to have an MRI done in the same appointment.

This procedure can be used to help diagnose tears in ligaments, cartilage, or tendons, evaluate and identify the cause of joint pain, check for synovial problems, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the lights in the MRI room so bright?
arrow pointing down on sdmi lv website

Some MRI exams require an IV injection, it is important for our technologists to have good lighting to be able to start an IV. If the light is too bright and uncomfortable please alert your technologist. We have eye/sleep masks available, these masks also help with claustrophobia and you get to keep it after your exam.

Why is it so cold in the MRI room?

MRI Machines use very powerful magnets to achieve the highest quality images. These magnets produce heat and need to be kept cold to function properly. If you feel too cold during your exam please alert your technologist and they will be happy to provide you with a blanket.
